Electronic Music Genre Tree

Over at techno.org, you can find a well-constructed Electronic music genre tree. The authors claim to “entertain before it informs”, which is how we should really treat any music genre tree. As I have mentioned in the past, music genres are one of the most subjective topics, therefore all music genre trees should be taken with a grain of salt. The tutorial found in this site is a good explanation on electronic music, in general. Have fun there.

es muy entretenida esa pagina, mi hermano me la presento una vez, hace tiempo.
como referencia es bastante buena. he discrepado con un par de bandas que considero no estan en el lugar que corresponda. pero todo es subjetivo.

The above mentioned EM Genre Tree is a wonderful snapshot for this moment in time. But it also shows how quickly things change. Back in the 70s, no one would have called Disco electronic music and the same goes for New Wave in the 80s (new wave was part of the punk music tree then).
Electronic music was originally a classification for sound collages created by academic persons using electro mechanical devices. Now Electronic Music seems to mean dance music to most people. How it got this way boggles the mind.
After you create the Music Genre Tree it will already be obsolete, not that I want to try to discourage anyone. But maybe genre should be directly tied to time.
